Little Step No. 51

Step No.51

What to do:

Make these 5-min peanut-butter cocoa truffles.

Why this step works:

Since it's Easter weekend (and that usually means chocolate!) I thought for this week's little step I'd share with you these super-quick and easy to make little 'chocolatey' truffles.

And in case your immediate thought is 'can you really make those in 5 minutes?'  (which is exactly what my daughter said to me as she spotted my recipe sitting on the kitchen counter), I'd like to reassure you that the answer is YES YOU CAN!

5-min peanut butter-cocoa truffles

You will need:

Method:

  1. Mix the nut butter, maple syrup and salt in a bowl until blended. Add the protein powder, stirring until completely combined (mixture will be firm)

  2. If the mixture seems too dry you can add a drop of milk or water; if it’s too wet add a bit more protein powder

  3. Scoop about 1.5 tbsps of the mixture into your hands and shape into 1-inch balls

  4. Add some cacao powder to a shallow bowl and roll the balls in the cacao powder until they are lightly covered.

  5. Place the balls in an airtight container and store in the fridge

So what’s so great about these truffles?

Weeding sugar out of the diet is something I frequently help clients with.  And one of the first suggestions I often make is to get armed with alternatives you can reach for instead of a sugary snack.  Your alternatives need to be healthy but also tasty enough to feel like a bit of a treat.  And these little truffles fit the bill perfectly.

You may have noticed that when you eat a sugary snack, it's not long before you're reaching for something sugary again.  Eating sugar makes you crave more sugar, and so the never-ending vicious cycle continues. In contrast, the low sugar / high protein content of these truffles does the opposite - it keeps you feeling fuller for longer and stops sugar cravings in their tracks.

Not only are these little truffles quick and easy to make, nutritious and a helpful ally if you're trying to cut down on sugar - they're very versatile too.  They work well as a tasty treat, a satisfying snack, added to a lunchbox or can even be used as a post-exercise recovery snack.

Planning ahead and being prepared with convenient and nutritious food options is an important foundation of eating well.  I'd highly recommend giving these little truffles a go, so that next time you fancy a tasty little treat you have the option to reach for something that will support rather than sabotage your health goals.

Hope you enjoy this tasty and versatile little step x
