Mindful Eating, the book.

Together with my close friend and colleague, Mandy Pearson, I co-authored Mindful Eating, published by Cico Books in 2014.

In this book we provide practical ways you can support a healthy relationship with food, alongside tried and tested recipes and inspirational tips.

Mindful eating is simply about bringing your attention back to your food

In today’s hectic world it’s all too easy to make mindless food choices. It has become the norm to reach for unhealthy snacks for a quick energy boost, to work through lunch and to be constantly distracted whilst eating. The enjoyment of eating is lost as a result. Mindful eating offers a new, positive way forward. Bringing your attention to the present moment, without judgement reduces the tendency to continue on auto-pilot, thus allowing you to choose how you respond and react.

It’s often the smallest changes that make the biggest difference

By applying the simple principles of mindfulness to everyday eating habits, it becomes easier to make changes to your diet and learn how to appreciate and savour your food. Not only does mindful eating put you back in control, and help you to break negative habits such as overeating and yo-yo dieting, it also has wider benefits too. Slowing down and making time for meals sets the stage for optimal digestion; the positive knock-on effects of which are huge. Optimal digestion and gut health are essential foundations of optimal health overall. Needless to say, incorporating some simple aspects of mindful eating into your life has the potential to bring about widespread benefits.
